About Us

'Ad Hena' is a learning and research institute dedicated to the study of the Torah creations of Galician and Bukovinian Jewry, from the 16th century to the present day.

The centre seeks to create a broad academic foundation which will bring together Torah expertise, scholarship, modern research methods and historical thinking. It aims to achieve this by integrating budding Haredi researchers into scientific research endeavours.

Busk

Preparing to the Expedition to Busk and Kalush

Busk and Kalush are typical Eastern Galician cities. Once they were known as prominent trade and industrial centers with significant Jewish population, which contributed a lot to their urban development. Now, the only testimony of past vibrant Jewish life there are the Jewish cemeteries, where the Expedition will work this year.
Buczacz

Expedition to Buczacz, 2018

The organization’s annual documentation delegation completed documentation of the Jewish cemetery in Buczacz this year. It could be said that the central theme of this year’s field work was the legacy of S.Y Agnon. Members of his family, as well as many of his friends, acquaintances, and heroes of his works, are buried in the cemetery.

Four Hundred Years of Rabbinic Creativity in Galicia and Bukovina of the Early Modern Period

The project will involve gathering and cataloguing the various documentations (books, manuscripts, and surviving community notebooks); classifying the material into folk works and “higher” creative output; researching different versions of prayers and their developments over the years; surveying and summarizing the history of the publication of these works, and analyzing the measure of their acceptance in various provinces, along a chronological axis.
