Author
Avraham Аvish Shor

Researchers of history and Hassidism have paid insufficient attention to the attitude of the Hassidic masters toward the political systems of the gentile authorities in Eastern Europe, and their involvement in such matters. This article will demonstrate the dynamic involvement of great Hassidic rabbis in these affairs, which included metaphysical discussions as well as internal disputes that continued throughout the years during which the partitions of Poland dragged on.
